Satoshi Nakamoto is the name used by the developer (or developers) of Bitcoin and its associated blockchain. It is unknown who or what Satoshi Nakamoto is. It is not known whether the Satoshi is an individual or group and where it came from.
Nakamoto published a white paper in October of 2008 called “Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System” published. Here, Nakamoto described the concept of Bitcoin. In January 2009, the first Bitcoin software to launch the network and the first official “bitcoins” were released. The first version (0.1) was launched on January 9, 2009.
There have been multiple theories in recent years with individuals designated as Satoshi. Some people claimed this themselves and others were awarded it after investigations. Below is a list of people who are or have been associated with Satoshi's identity.
Hal Finney (deceased) was a pioneer in cryptography before bitcoin existed. Apart from Satoshi Nakamoto, he was the first person to use the software. He lived a few blocks from Dorian Nakamoto. This man was evicted from his home by a bank. A consultancy firm compared Hal Finney's writing style with Satoshi's and came to the conclusion that his writing style is much like the writing style in Satoshi Nakamoto's messages.
In 2013, a blogger linked Nick Szabo to Satoshi's identity through the Bitcoin white paper.
Szabo was a crypto enthusiast from the first hour and published an article called “Bitgold” before Bitcoin existed. This is seen as one of the previous concepts for Bitcoin. Szabo was also known as someone who made extensive use of pseudonyms.
In an article published in 2011, he makes it clear that, along with Wei Dai and Hal Finney, he was the only one who originally did anything with the idea of a decentralized currency. By the way, Nick Szabo has always denied it.
Craig Wright himself claims to be the inventor of Bitcoin, but few people believe him. It is clear that he is smart and knows a lot about blockchain technology. For example, he is one of the developers behind Bitcoin SV.
Unlike the other people on this list, Wright has often claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto. The evidence Wright sometimes publishes is often debunked. There is an easy way for Craig Wright to prove that he is Nakamoto, by showing that he has control over Satoshi's private keys. However, Wright says he destroyed the hard drive with these keys to protect his identity. This is strange because he always claims to be Nakamoto.
Several studies published over the years are suspected of false information. All the evidence provided came from Wright himself, which calls the reliability into question. Several times, Wright would provide evidence that would allow him to prove his identity once and for all. To this day, this has still not happened and there was an excuse every time.
The “Newsweek magazine” published an article on March 6, 2014. This article was written by journalist Leah McGrath Goodman. She indicated that she had identified Dorian Prentice Satoshi Nakamoto as “the” Satoshi. Dorian was living in California, USA at that time. Satoshi Nakamoto is literally incorporated into his name, but there were also a number of other factors. Nakamoto worked as an engineer on secret defense systems and as a computer engineer for financial institutions. Today, Dorian Nakamoto's face is the first thing that comes up when looking for Satoshi. Although there is no further evidence that Dorian is the creator of Bitcoin, he is often booked for blockchain conferences.
